I have quite a few ideas for the fanfic we have to write, and was hoping my peers (you) could help me to choose by commenting with their preference/thoughts.
Roswell - I was obsessed with this TV show when I was younger and used to write fan fiction for it. I know the show's plots and characters inside and out, and can still recite each line of dialogue when watching the episodes on DVD. This would be my "easy A" option... so I sort of want to try something different, although I do still love the show.
Doctor Who - Again, another sci-fi show that I love. Writing a fan fiction for this show would be limitless (some fanfic writers were even chosen to collaborate on actual episodes).
I would probably choose to write about the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) and Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) characters from the 2005-2006 series.
Romeo & Juliet - So many variations of this have been done. It would be a great challenge to come up with something fresh - so I was considering doing an outside POV fanfic, possibly even from a reader's POV. Could be tricky, but also amazing if executed well.
A Chorus Line - This is a musical from the 1980's, as I am a musician and musical theatre buff, I think this could be an interesting avenue to pursue. This musical deals with auditioning and "making it", so again easy to create a storyline for. I am toying with the idea of writing a songfic for this, and inserting lyrics to a new song I would write into the storyline - perhaps an audition piece for one of the characters.
Please let me know what you think and help me choose!
Obviously you have to go with whatever you'd like to, but I personally like the Roswell idea. I also like the idea of a readers Romeo and Juliet POV - I guess how it informs/changes their perspective on life etc. though I don;t think this has to be about a romance the narrator is in, it could put a new spin on a family conflict they're having, for example, or some kind of choice they have to make.
ReplyDeleteSongfic could also be good :)
Good luck!
Thanks Esther :)
ReplyDeleteI did go with the Roswell idea in the end. It's just easier to write about something you know inside out!
I've finished my story, but it is 1000 words rather than 800. I know you said we could do 800-1000, but seeing as we still have a week I should see if I can condense it any further. So challenging! :-P
